The US Passed the Modernization of Cosmetic Regulation Act of 2022

On 29 December 2022, President Biden signed into law the Modernization of Cosmetic Regulation Act of 2022, which requires increased Food and Drug Administration (FDA) oversight of cosmetics and the ingredients in them. , The new cosmetics regulation law ensures that cosmetic manufacturers provide assurances that their cosmetic products are safe. 


Malaysia Releases Glossary for Cosmetic Guideline

On 9 December 2022, the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) Ministry of Health Malaysia released a glossary for the cosmetic guideline, which includes the definitions of Cosmetic Notification Holder (CNH), Cosmetic Product, Letter of Authorization (LOA)/Letter of Declaration, Letter of Contract Manufacturing, Manufacturer, Secondary Assembler, Product Variant.

 

EU Removes Titanium Dioxide from Carcinogenic Classification

Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) is widespread in cosmetics formulations mainly as UV filters. It was previously banned in the EU due to its possibility to cause cancer.

Recently, the European Court of Justice determined that titanium dioxide in powder form has been wrongly classified by the European Union (EU) as carcinogenic. As a result, the Court declared a corresponding regulation of the EU Commission null and void.
